Trump Liable for Sexual Abuse and Defamation

Trump Liable for Sexual Abuse and Defamation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE    –  May 10, 2023

He Didn’t Get Away With It

Yesterday was a historic day for survivors. The jury in E. Jean Carroll’s civil trial sent a clear message: if you commit sexual assault, no amount of money or power will shield you from accountability.

As survivors and advocates, we are delighted and relieved that E. Jean Carroll has obtained justice after living with the effects of this assault, and the defamation that came after, since the mid-90s.

The jury did not fall for victim-blaming tropes, gaslighting, attempted smears, and conspiracy theories. This trial was a great indication that understanding of, and attitudes toward, PTSD and the psychology of trauma have come on leaps and bounds in both the public and legal consciousness.

This verdict would not have been possible without the hard work of a coalition of survivors, plus the advocates and lawmakers who fought hard to pass the Adult Survivors Act. We implore adult survivors of sexual assault to look in to the Adult Survivors Act before the window closes in ~6 months.
