Associate Attorney
C.A. Goldberg, PLLC is hiring an Associate Attorney to lead our Anti-Abortion Harassment practice.
Since 2016, we’ve been representing abortion providers and the community that supports them when they face anti-abortion harassment. This includes physicians and clinic staff, clinic escorts, advocacy organizations, volunteers, and others who are instrumental in protecting and facilitating access to abortion. This firm values reproductive freedom, and brings years of experience protecting clients under attack, both online and off.
Our cases have included trial court and appellate work defending abortion providers in frivolous lawsuits, lawsuits de-anonymizing harassers, and federal lawsuits for defamation and under the FACE Act. We routinely handle order of protection cases, discriminatory issues with landlords, surveillance and trespass violations by protestors, and advocacy with social media platforms and search engines to improve policies. We help the community both in rapid response to urgent matters and in safety planning to strengthen physical and digital privacy.
Although at least half of the role will focus on abortion-related litigation and advocacy, the Associate may also participate in other areas of our legal practice – representing victims of sexual violence, stalking, gender-based violence and personal injury against Big Tech. This firm fiercely advocates for online companies to be held responsible for harms they cause.
The firm has mental health support systems in place, but any candidate will need to have coping strategies for difficult subject areas. The job involves working with trauma victims, exposure to graphic material, dealing with cases involving the abuse of children, intimate partner violence, victims of image-based abuse, targets of online attacks and harassment, and suicide.
We are not able to consider candidates who live in a household with individuals 1) presently employed by TikTok, Amazon, Snap, Google, Grindr, or Meta or 2) employed as outside counsel to those companies.
The candidate:
You have 2-5 years of litigation experience, demonstrated employment background in reproductive rights, health, or justice, and a law license in NY, WA and/or CA. (We will consider individuals licensed in other populous states.)
You are a personable individual who is interested in connecting and collaborating with allies in the movement. You are experienced and dedicated to abortion access and protection. You are a lawyer with ingenuity and risk tolerance.
- This is a full time role. We would like the right candidate to be available to start ASAP.
- Brooklyn office. However, we might consider experienced individuals who would work remotely. The position requires travel to conferences and to clients as necessary.
- The anticipated annual salary for this position is $90-$100k, commensurate with experience. Benefits included – we offer medical, dental, and vision insurance plans, PTO and paid holidays.
- We have: a psychologist that we check-in with, Pelotons with individual memberships for all staff to encourage physical and emotional wellbeing, a dog-friendly office, and all the diet coke you could possibly drink.
