Carrie Goldberg wins DV Leap Founder’s Award

Last night Carrie received the 2020 Domestic Violence Legal Empowerment and Appeals Project Joan Meier Founder’s Award!

This honor was created to celebrate the legacy of Joan Meier and recognize lawyers who have “transformed the legal landscape for domestic violence survivors.”

As one committee member wrote about her work, “Carrie Goldberg’s cutting-edge legal efforts to protect survivors, improve the law, and empower victims deems her a most deserving recipient of this high honor.”

The award was presented virtually at the DV LEAP annual event on the evening of October 15, 2020 by Goodwill Ambassador, Actress Abigail Spencer. Carrie also served as the keynote speaker and guest of honor at the VIP virtual reception.

As Carrie said in her speech, we would like to thank the organizers who put in so much grit to make this happen in a year that is unlike any before. We’re seeing major new trends of intimate partner violence in what the New England Journal of Medicine has described as ‘a pandemic within a pandemic’ as victims are trapped with their abusers, sheltering in place and unable to safely connect with services.

DV LEAP is truly a godsend, as the only nonprofit doing nationwide appellate legal advocacy and policy on intimate partner violence, and Carrie is so honored to be recognized by an organization whose work we so greatly admire.
