Carrie’s Letter to the Editor at Los Angeles Time: Tech companies need to be held accountable when AI causes harm
Los Angeles Times, September 30, 2025
In her Letter to the Editor, Carrie calls out Big Tech for fighting AI safety guardrails against the wishes of victims’ parents, and emphasizes the need to hold these tech companies accountable as they continue to evade liability for the incredible harms caused on their platforms. As Carrie writes, we’ve applied product liability theory against Big Tech, leading to the shutdown of Omegle for facilitating the sex trafficking of our child client. We will not accept tech companies continuing to hide behind Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.
“In most industries, courts hold companies responsible when their products cause harm. When a car accelerates uncontrollably, we hold the manufacturer accountable. The tech industry—including AI companies—should be no different.— Carrie Goldberg
