Law360, April 3, 2025
By Gregg Lamm
On April 2, 2025, a panel of five judges in The Washington Supreme Court ordered review of our cases against Amazon for knowingly selling a suicide drug. Our founder Carrie Goldberg and Partner Naomi Leeds are the lead counsel in our suits against Amazon, representing 28 grieving families who lost their loved ones to Sodium Nitrite. Huge thanks to our amicus and their counsel – PHAI filed by Fong Law, EPIC filed by Friedman Rubin PLLP, and child mental health experts filed by Keller Rohrback LLP.

Washington puts restrictions on lethal chemical used in suicides
The Seattle Times, April 8, 2025
By Kai Uyehara
This article reports that in early April, Washington state Gov. Bob Ferguson signed a bill restricting the sale of Sodium Nitrite. As background, Tyler’s Law, named in honor of our client’s son, Tyler Schmidt, a 15-year-old boy from Camas, Clark County, who died by ingesting Sodium Nitrite, bans the sale of the chemical in concentrations over 10%. House Bill 1209 takes effect immediately! Washington is now the fourth state we’ve gotten legislation to limit the sale of Sodium Nitrite, following California, Colorado and New York.
Carrie and Naomi testified to the Washington Legislature in support of Tyler’s Law on January 24, 2025.
In high concentrations, Sodium Nitrite can be lethal, and Amazon was selling it online in 99% concentrations. As of March 2025, we have filed 10 lawsuits against the tech giant, representing 28 families who lost loved ones who used Sodium Nitrite to die by suicide. To date, Amazon has refused to commit to permanently delisting the chemical which is more deadly than cyanide and has no household use.
